Private Chef – Julieta Liebhoff

When did it start?

Well, you could say being a private chef started many years ago. From the very beginning I was helping friends, family and friends of friends with their needs. This ranged from diets to ones who are involved in sports. UFC fighters are always asking for assistance now.

What was it that made you want to start this business?

Working in a kitchen is fantastic, any chef will tell you that. Being a private chef though changes what you do on each and every day. One day it’s your mom asking the best thing for a dinner party and the next day you have a MMA title fight in a couple of months and a fighter has got to cut weight while keeping strength and energy.

What was the toughest thing you went through when opening?

Branching out on my own had a lot of challenges. A roll over of customers, you need them continually. You’re almost at the point you have to chase them. Grocery shopping as well. As you have limited meals, being on top of what to purchase is a real wake up call.

If you had to start over from day 1 what would you have done differently?

I would have gone online much sooner. Maybe while I was still working in the restaurant. That way I might not have felt as if I was chasing my tail so much.

What is the toughest part about having a business in 2017?

The toughest part is competition. Any good idea a person has and a bandwagon starts and everyone starts doing it. 9-5 jobs are coming to an end in a lot of areas, so people who have skills are putting them to use and working for themselves.

If a customer was to choose between your business and 3 others just like it why would you suggest they at least give you a try first?

We all know there is a great number of people who can cook, and cook well. Some have these have gone into being a personal chef. Do they know the real ins and outs of food apart from how to make it taste good? My results speak for themselves. Check out the athletes I have helped, you’d be surprised.

What is the number 1 way you currently bring in new customers?

Word of mouth, no just kidding, social media this has allowed me to be spotted by so many people rather than me approaching them.

Has the Internet played a big role in your business as it has become more prevalent?

Sure. As I have just said social media plus with an online presence you can start showing your wares much earlier. Most customers then have a good idea what you’re all about by the time they speak to you.

If you had to look 6 months to a year into the future where would you like to see your business be?

A waiting list would be cool but I never want anyone to wait. That’s the first chance you can lose a customer. Someone who is able to help without being told all the time. A bit of hand on in all departments. One job description is no good in the business.
